Minutes from 04/21/08
Dearest Program Board,
I don’t know why you’re sitting inside reading this email when it’s so GORGEOUS outside. Doesn’t it put you in a good mood?
But since you’re here let’s get down to business…
Pope-posals (get it?! The pope was in town! lololololwtfloll): Ray, Raisa, and China proposed to have a PB movie night on Thursday, May 8th in the office (it passed), the movie choice is still up in the air, but people suggested the following: The Warriors, Escape From New York, The Breakfast Club, Empire Records, & Heavyweights. You should suggest some if you’ve seen movies that were good in your lifetime. There will be free food and (although no one’s suggesting anything), there happens to be an absurd amount of condoms on the 7th floor (dance troupe or safe sex troupe? Think about it.). I, however, think that we should turn the office into a giant fort which will be called Fort Cooler-Than-You-Because-We-Have-An-Office-Where-We-Can-Build-Forts-Like-This-One (and let’s be real, The Plague knows that our office is better and that the people inside it are more attractive).
Film: Raisa is screening I am Legend this Thursday and Superbad next Thursday. Only two PB members came to the Sweeney Todd screening last week, which means that if more people don’t come out Raisa will activate her army of other scarier more robotic Raisa and send them out to wake you up right after you’ve gotten all cozy and fallen asleep at night with really annoying beepy alarms.
Prerelease: China’s last screening ever (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) was a HUGE success. We had to tell over 200 people to go home and cry themselves to sleep because there were 300 other cooler, less tardy kids that got there before them. Although China did say that if you sign up for a working list you should make sure you are actually able to come to the event because she was short worker bees at the screening. But bottom line, big success lots of ‘lol’s, ‘omgwtf’s, and ‘hahaha-ha-ha’s as well as variations of the three.
Concerts: Mad was on her way back from DC, so Brenda wore Mad’s shoes. But if Brenda wore Mad’s shoes and Mad wore her travelin’ shoes, who wore Brenda’s shoes? Tomorrow is the She & Him concert at Skirball… there is no guest list at this point and although there was a working list I believe it’s full now. Mad may ask for some more comp tickets, but if you really would like to go you should get your tickets from Ticket Central.
Student Arts: Allie is having her last coffeehouse on Friday at 6:30 at Starbucks. It’s gonna be mad chill and although you won’t be supporting fair trade coffee, you’ll be supporting Allie and Keep A Child Alive, which are super awesome causes to support. In fact you should make a T-shirt stating how much you love Allie Nudelman. It could say something like “I love Allie Nudelhearts” or “I wanna Nudelmakeout with your Allie Nudelface right now, but since I’m at this coffeehouse it would be very inappropriate although I’m having a great time at this coffeehouse because it’s so fun.” or “I want Allie Nudelman on MY Program Board” or perhaps “I >3 NY” although that wouldn’t be nearly as original.
Membership: The PB end of the year party date was moved to FRIDAY MAY NINTH at some karaoke bar in midtown to accommodate our sassiest seniors’ busy senior schedules. You should start practicing your karaoke selections now because all of Program Board will be judging you and your vocal abilities (if you don’t hit that high note we’ve got potatoes which hurt way more than tomatoes even though they both rhyme). That’s also where Ray is going to distribute the PB yearbooks, which if you haven’t filled out your yearbook page you should get on that (picture too)! And you need to RSVP at some point to Ray about going to the karaoke night because it’s charged per head (ie. don’t bring friends unless they’re invisible).
Strawberry Fest: Jon Gottlieb is on the Strawberry Fest Committee and gave us a rundown on what we’ll see come Friday, May 2nd.. Expect the following: CANDY, (dueling) MECHANICAL BULLS, FREE INSOMNIA COOKIES, SNOCONES, STRAWBERRIES (duh), CANDY, CANDY, JOUSTING, CANDY, OBSTACLE COURSES & lots of other things! They’re looking for volunteers from 8AM to 5:30PM even though you don’t need to help the whole time and the event is only from 12-4. And you need to get a ticket for the event from Ticket Central even though it’s free (just so they know you’re from NYU and that you’re not bringing dozens of non-NYU kids).
Off the Grid: So Off The Grid turned out great! Mission of Burma was a complete mindfuck! (I told Roger Miller they did a great set afterwards and he was like “Thanks! I saw you and your blue hair up front!’ They were cool dudes even though they mentioned that they weren’t Grizzly Bear.) Hopefully if this happens again next year we’ll have more time to advertise and not plan it on Passover/Culture Shock at Purchase so that we’ll get more people to come, but considering the circumstances it was great. And word on the street is Dosa Man and Lauren Birnie are running away to Sri Lanka to make vegan Indian food forever and ever. OH and Michelle got proposed to! And she said YES because she wants to get MARRIED!
Kristen’s Day: I wish I had something really exciting to tell everyone, like I’ve just discovered there’s a way to make ATM machines give everyone unlimited money and we could overthrow the government via the economic inflation then recession (or something). But nah, I was at the comp lab, ran in to Ray (he gave me a cookie), I actually taught a lady (yes, in 2008) how to copy and paste something in a document. She was like “I’m a nurse! I don’t know all this technology!” Ain’t no nurse be operating nuffin on me that aint got no copy/paste skillzzzz.
Well, nothing very exciting to say, but here's a video to explain how i feel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsrN3qxX2Yw.
love,
