Where will I sleep during OutReach?
OutReach participants are given special permission to move into their assigned residence hall rooms on August 20th, five days prior to move-in day for the rest of the NYU students. OutReach participants will sleep in their own residence hall rooms as long as they are not being renovated during the summer.

What if my residence hall is under construction?
If your residence hall is being renovated, you will be placed in temporary NYU housing during the OutReach program. You will be able to move in to your permanent residence hall room on Sunday, August 24th. You will receive more information regarding move-in with your acceptance e-mail.

What type of community service should I expect from OutReach?
OutReach takes advantage of the diverse service opportunities New York City has to offer. On the day of arrival, OutReach participants will be able to learn about the various projects that have been lined up for the week. In the past, OutReach projects have included organizing books at Housing Works, a used bookstore where all proceeds are donated to people living with AIDS; painting schools and homeless shelters; cleaning parks, churches and beaches; and facilitating a field day for formerly homeless children. Specific programs for OutReach 2008 are being identified over the summer.

What do we do during the evening?
Each evening, OutReach Leaders will bring small groups to different sites around Manhattan. In previous years, OutReachers have seen comedy shows, gone out to dinner, and attending outdoor shows in the park. These evening activities are a great way for new students to get oriented with NYC and to meet with other NYU students. All evening activities are supervised by two or more OutReach Leaders.

Will I have time to meet up with family or friends during OutReach?
The OutReach schedule is both full of activities and does not incorporate free time to be spent with friends or family. After the OutReach schedule of activities begins, you are expected to participate fully in OutReach for the duration of the program (August 20-24, 2008).

Will my parents be able to reach me while I am participating in OutReach?
Parents will be able to contact participants at various times throughout the day. Participants may have their cell phones with them at sites/meals/activities (in case of an emergency) and there is free time in the afternoon at which time participants can contact their parents.
