OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP TRACK!

The Outdoor Leadership Track is designed to provide students with an opportunity to enhance leadership skills, gain an appreciation of natural history and the outdoors, and learn how to become an advocate for a sustainable world. This track will include field trips and special events that will assist students in understanding important environmental issues that affect our communities. In addition, participants will attend regular group meetings to prepare for a 3-4 day outdoor backcountry expedition during spring break. The expedition will provide opportunities for students to utilize the challenges of wilderness travel to develop greater levels of self-confidence and an understanding of leadership.

The goal of the Outdoor Leadership Track is for students to enhance leadership skills, gain an appreciation of natural history and the outdoors, and learn how to become an advocate for a sustainable world.

As a member of the Outdoor Leadership Track, students will

  • Learn and practice outdoor ethics such as the Leave No Trace philosophy.
  • Develop an appreciation for natural history and the outdoors, and to learn about how to become an advocate for the environment.
  • Engage in personal reflection and peer-to-peer dialogue about ones leadership development.
  • To learn and practice safety and outdoor technical skills such as basic Wilderness First Aid, using a compass, map reading, trip planning, backcountry cooking, packing techniques, and minimum impact camping.
